Muharram is the first month in the Hijri calendar. The name Muharram comes from the Arabic word “harram” which means forbidden or is also interpreted as holy.
The reason is because in this month there is a day that is considered holy by Muslims which is called Ashura. This day falls every 10th of Muharram.
